Weissglut Biography
In April 2002, Weissglut ceased to exist. After two albums, two singers, four years and an incredible amount of captivating, moving songs, the journey was over. Current members Tom, Sid, Guido, Thomas got to a stage where they believed their style of music had changed so much they could not stay true to the foundations of Weissglut. A note on the official site greeted fans with the sad news:
Hello,
This is the last life-sign of the band Weissglut, for we decided some time ago to end the story of Weissglut and to begin something new.
As we began a year ago to write new songs, we realized how far we were from what Weissglut once musically was and how much the time with Weissglut had changed us personally. We couldn’t push it away anymore; our further musical path can not go together with the dark/dismal feeling-world of Weissglut. So, the day came, on which we knew, each for himself, that this emotional story is over and that we feel the courage to go another musical way, and that we must.
As to the discussion of Weissglut, in our eyes we have managed the necessary explanation, as a result of our own cessation. With this name we have consciously tried to place signals against intolerance, racism, and superficial prejudices. We will continue to do this even when Weissglut no longer exists. In this sense, we have always met hard decisions in moments that appeared right for us. Whether these decisions were always "strategic" and correct in this business was never the question for us. We have never thought "strategically", rather always out of our feelings.
Thus, we have decided - to the surprise of our own record company and surely to the surprise and even lack of understanding of our own fans as well.
This is an end - and because of everything said to you here:
Thanks to all fans, who have supported the band so magnificently. We value it very much we will be pleased with everyone who will also accompany us in a new constellation as musicians and individuals.
An end is always a beginning.
In this sense, a good time to you all.
Tom, Sid, Guido, Thomas
This was a shock for many fans as the last news of the band was they were preparing songs for a 3rd album to follow up the brilliant Zeichen album.
Weissglut launched their first album which was self titled Weissglut in early 1998. Only a few months after this was released, Weissglut were signed up to Sony. In the same year the Weissglut album was re-released under Sony with the new name Etwas Kommt in Deine Welt. Essentially it was the same album but with new artwork and a new song "Etwas Kommt in Deine Welt". The band at this stage consisted of Josef Maria Klumb, Guido Winters, Sid Venus, with Josef as the vocalist.
Etwas Kommt in Deine Welt was met with great success for the band, with the single "Unschuldsengel" being sent to various radio stations for airplay. As a vocalist, Josef gave his heart to his performances and so his singing was an extension of his feelings and moods. His range bought great reviews for the album. Although was not well within the band.
Behind the scenes, Josef and the rest of the band were a world appart. When it became clear to the band of Josef's politcal beliefs, there was no option but to replace him.
With Josef gone, fans felt a little uneasy as to how anyone could fill his place and create the same moods with both lyrics and vocal expressions. A new singer was found, his name was Tom v. K. With a new vocalist, Weissglut looked forward to the future and began work on a new cd.
The new album named Zeichen was released on the 29th of April 2000. The single In Mir was also released on the same day. Fans held their breaths going into the record stores. They were not disappointed, Tom proved to be an amazing singer. Tom was just as, if not more, emotional than fans had hoped for. He proved to many that he was the man for the job, the new album created an amazing atmosphere that has still to be equaled to this day.
Zeichen was met with great reviews. It created a wonderful mood-inspired dark journey to which was unexplored territory. Every instrument seemed to make its mark at the right time, it was much more than an ordinary album, it was a journey of dark moods at an emotional level never felt before. The single "In Mir" showed newcomers the beauty of Weissglut and so a few months later the single "Tanz der sinne" was released.
With such a brilliant album to follow up with, Weissglut were on the way to recording their 3rd album when they suddenly announced they were to seperate. Fans everywhere were in total shock, many had only recently become fans of this great band. A lot of people hoped something would become of the unfinished songs.....and something did.
