Stahlhammer - Feind Hört Mit
Feind Hört Mit (Enemy Listens In) is the 3rd album from Austrian NDH band Stahlhammer and their last album with singer Georgij Alexandrowitsch.  Between Feind Hört Mit and Wiener Blut Stahlhammer changed guitarists.  Now brought in was Conrad Schrenk, a former guitarist for the Austrian Pop Star, Falco, who tragically died in 1998.  Falcos death had a great effect on the band and to honor the Austrian pop star they recorded two cover songs originally by Falco, Mutter, Der Mann Mit Dem Koks Ist Da and Jeanny.  These songs are done in the faithful Stahlhammer style and fit right in on the album.  On a side note these songs greatly influenced the Falco: Cyber Show, where Georgij performed both covers.  The album also inspired a video for Der Mann Mit Dem Koks and is viewable on youtube.  After the album Georgij left to join the Austrian pop band Ohrrausch. He is now currently part of the band Russkaja, a Russian ska band.

The music on Feind Hört Mit differs from Wiener Blut slightly but still hits with the same formula.  The opener Was ist Das is a spoken track leading into Am Liebsten Von Hinten.  A song that sounds like it could be off Wiener Blut.  The similarities lessen after that point.  Especially on Der Mann Mit Dem Koks, the standout best track on the album.  The lyrics are the same as the Falco version but that is where similarities end.  The guitar is heavy and the chorus is even more infectious then the original.  This is Stahlhammer at their very best.  Herz aus Stahl has a soft violin opener, a big change for the band, and is electronics heavy during the verses.  Messerschmied is another good song.  Electronic beats drive the song along with the Stahlhammer heavy guitar, which leaves it sounding like a pumped up, heavy version of Unheilig.  As for the ballad of the album Strom der Zeit fills that void very nicely.  It actually ends up being one of the strongest tracks on the album.  The entire song is sung in clear vocals and is still heavy and well done.  Lastly is Supernova.  This song is a preview of what Geogij is doing in Russkaja, it has a horns section.  This is Another Big change for a band like Stahlhammer.

My complaint about the poor production quality of Wiener Blut was fixed for this album and Stahlahmmer developed a more mainstream NDH-typical sound.   Stahlhammer created a fitting swan-song for their singer and a fine album.
