Silber - Hier und Jetzt

Last Summer finally arised one of the most long-expected releases for both fans of NDH and Weissglut/Silber's. Their second album released with the later band designation was released after much anticipation, continuosly delayed release dates and some doubt concerning the fact this release would not feature electronica sounds, which have always been one of their strongest trademarks ever since their debut. Would this be enough to make up for a disappointment or would we be pleased by a band that's used to never let their fans down under any circunstances? You'll find out the answer within the review that's to follow.

Niemand Anders

First song on the album already gives you a little insight about what's to follow within the second relase of Silber. Energetically paced guitars and drums guide you throughout the song, while Tom v.K. keeps remainescent of his talented singing approach. The lyrics are also one of their best ever released. A strong opener, even if it's no masterpiece like Flieg. 8/10

Unendlich

Bouncy-shaped catchy guitar riffs and a simple yet (also) catchy chorus are what characterize this song best. Hats off also need to be taken at Tom v.K's perfect efforts within the track. A song that kicked off as being a personal favorite, but that due to it's repetitiveness get's a bit worn out with time. 8/10

Dies ist unser Tag

An absolute positive energy burst is what comes to mind when trying to mentally draw this one song. The drumming is consistently good and the distorted guitars meet their best sound throughout the chorus. Uplifting and a song that should receive consistent radio airplay in Germany, due to it's radio-friendly atmosphere. 7/10

Wo bist du

After three energetic songs one could use a little rest. This is where Wo bist du crosses the album's general sound standards and steps in, coming across as a less energetic song. The vocals on the pre-chorus are what catch my attention the most within this song, though backing vocals are also worth of note. A sorrowful and haunting scream for someone or something that's departed leaves it's mark. The bridge could have been better worked on to make the song stronger. 7/10

Keine Zeit für Wunder

Back to energy with this song, though in lesser ammounts and only really noticeable in both chorus and short-living post-chorus guitar riffing. The song reaches it's highest point during the bridge and following last chorus/outro, with the wild guitar riffing being worth of mention. Still, not the enough to impress me much. 6.5/10

Willkommen in Meiner Welt

One of the best songs of the album, the way guitars blend together with the drums is simply perfect. A more gloomy sung chorus shouldn't be seen as a turn off by any means possible, but certainly as the strongest trademark within the song, since it's on it that one can listen to the album's title being repeatdly sung followed by the song's title, making up for what I consider to be the album's anthem song of choice. The outro should go on for about 30 seconds more at least, too good sounding for just half a minute. 8.5/10

16:57 (Interlude)

A slow-paced interlude to the album comes next, fitting in well in-between the previous mentioned song and the one that is to follow. I'm guessing the numbers translate into the time it has been recorded or idealized during the recording sessions. 7/10

Lass es gehen

Powerful chords in the beggining meet harmonious guitars throughout the song. Clean vocals appearance by the always melodious vocal style of Tom v.K. meet another high point within the album along with the harmonious backing vocaling. Not as energetic as any of the songs within the first half of the album, but certainly more melodic oriented. In overall, another of the strong ones within the album. 8/10

Maskenignoranz

Ever since my first listen, this song is my favorite track out of the album. It contains all ingredients necessary to make it so. Accoustic guitars, Tom v.K's best vocal performance ever since Weissglut changed their name into Silber for sure and simple, yet beautifully shaped melody meet perfectly the bridge, plus the still forthcoming chorus at the end, leaving one thirsty to repeat the song at least a handful of times. And the lyrics simply couldn't go unnoticed either, thus making it up for a flawless masterpiece. 10/10

Weisst du wer ich bin

A song along the lines of Wo bist du, more gloomy and slow paced. Tom v.K's vocals and what's probably the best (and only?) guitar solo that I can spot on the album sort of save a song that otherwise would have just been boring to me. Still, not safe from being considered the weakest track within the album. 6/10

Wie ein Stein

The guitars are simply great on this one song, it's another of my personal favorites. Their outbursting sound just fit very well with the vocals, first in the heavier pre-chorus and afterwards in the melodius chorus sung by a Tom v.K for whom I'm already running short of compliments within this review. 9/10

Nichst ist sicher

The closing song sort of disappoints me. The song in itself is decent, specially the guitars but the lenght is simply too short. I'd prefer to see another "hidden" instrumental following it, though the band doesn't has to always follow such methodology. But by the harmony contained throughout all of this album it'd be only a deserved earcandy bonus. 7/10

All in all, I'm pleased with the final result. The album is consistent from start to end and the lack of keyboard lines, sampling or other electronica elements are hardly missed when you're facing a band that can harmonically produce such a good organic oriented album as this one. The band in itstelf is certainly running away from what once were heavier and more obscure roots, but as long as they keep on producing and releasing albums which are way above average there's no reason at all for one to turn it's back at them. One can only hope for improvement and varied creativity for the best from this guys in the forthcoming future.
