Mono Inc. - Temple of the Torn |
Mono Inc. are a band that have totally exploded onto our stereo and demanded our attention. This brilliant band hails from Hamburg which is pro ducing a number of great rock bands. Mono Inc. have just recently released their album 'Temple of the Torn' which follows up from their debut album 'Head Under Water' from 2004. However, there has been a number of changes to the band since the first release with the original vocalist Micky being replaced by the drummer and founding member Martin Engler. Don't think of Martin as a back up vocalist as this man can sing and in my opinion his voice is better suited than Micky's.
Mono Inc have always had English lyrics, but they have also retained the music techniques of the Neue Deutsche Härte movement. With very well timed heavy guitar riffs mixed with some brilliant backround samples and superb vocals this album definately catches your attention. The opening track 'Temple of The Torn' lines the listener up with what to expect for the rest of the album. This was the song which originally caught our attention to the band. Some great filtering techniques on Martin's vocals really enhance the agression of this song.
Where some bands like to have continuous hard guitars right throughout an album Mono Inc try to hold back until they are needed and this really gives the choruses an extra punch. These guys definately know how to play some fantastic guitar, such tracks as 'The Condemned', 'My Sick Mind TV', "Temple of the Torn' and 'Somberland' really show the talent these guys have to control the agression and save it for when it's needed. These tracks make you bang you head! They are fantastic.
There are also a few softer rock songs which still make you want to get up and sing along to. 'Just Because I Love You' shows the depth to the band and the chorus really kicks. 'In My Heart' is another great love song, this one being a bit more agressive than the later. The lyrics to all the songs fit the music spot on so full credit to the band that they can gel so well musically.
So all up a fantastic album that I HIGHLY recommend any DeutscheMusik fans to own. The only negative thing about this album is that the instrumental song 'Won't Forget This Day' could possibly have been left out in favour of another brilliant song as these guys have so much talent it's a shame to waste album space. My pick's for the album are 'Temple of The Torn' and 'My Sick Mind TV' while my least favourite would be 'Avalon' as I just think the main chorus get's a little repetetive and lacks the grunt of the other songs.
But the guys(and girl - Drummer Katha Mia) from Mono Inc. should brace themselves for a bright future if they continue to produce work such as this!
