Now, I’m sure that there are some who resent the fact that Eisbre cher exists. ”Alexx leaving Megaherz? Forget that!” These people are missing out on one of the best German bands to emerge in the past decade. Anyone who is a fan of German music must listen to these boys at least once, because they extremely talented. Eisbrecher is composed primarily of the duo Noel Pix and Alexx Wesselsky, both Megaherz vets, and they know how to create good music.
Now, Eisbrecher is not your typical heavy metal band. While they have definite metal roots, their style on this release encompasses much of the electronica and EBM movements into the sound as well. Perhaps this early sound is best shown by the tracks Schwarze Witwe (also the first track the duo recorded) and Willkommen im Nichts, showing both their electronica and metal sides clearly. This album seems perfectly suited for clubs, as nearly every track on here (excepting the two instrumentals Ruhe and Hoffnung, and the album opener Polarstern) are perfectly suited for dance clubs.
While they can and should be embraced by fans of Megaherz, this is not a Megaherz clone, and Noel and Alexx have taken their sound in another direction.. For those who come in with an open mind and aren’t burdened by thoughts of what this album should sound like, one will find a truly great recording, with an extremely catchy melody and vocals from one of the best in the German music scene.
