Die Apokalyptischen Reiter - Samurai |
Die Apokalyptischen Reiter (hereafter referred to as DAR for conve nience) are an interesting band. They started out firmly in the death metal scene, with harsh guitars and vocals, primarily done in English, but as time went on, they began to lighten their sound to something far more (comparatively) melodic, while shifting to ever more German language songs. Samurai is their fifth album, and it is unquestionably still rooted in heavy metal. The guitars are heavy, the beat is somewhat erratic, and Fuchs’ singing is alternately rough growling or sung. There are a few breaks in the heaviness, but for the most part this is an energetic, heavy album. I would say that it is best suited to a night out, or to play while exercising. It’s not really an album that benefits from careful listening. I’d also note that on several levels DAR reminds me of the American-Armenian band System of a Down, and is recommended to fans of that band.
