DeutscheMusik.net was alerted to this band a number of weeks ago. One promo package later and all we can say is..where have you been hiding this whole time? I sneakily listened to some samples from their site while the cd was in transit and I knew that I would not be disappointed. The homepage is well run with both an English and a German version. And judging by the promo package that arrived I can say the band promotion wehicle is a well oiled machine. very professional indeed. DEMENTI was formed 1997 in Erfurt/Germany. They describe their music as: " To put it bluntly, using imagery full of blood and poetry, we report our thoughts and feelings about life. We try to give emotions, which are lost in everday life, back to people" - to discover the image of our own fear through melancholy meldodies - to look rage and pain in the face in order to see life with new eyes. The cover of the "Für Heute Reichts" even fits in well with the music. The Ford Mustang describes the controlled power this band packs behind their music. But now to the cd itself. I'm never one to judge a cd by each song, so I'm not going to change now. The opening track 'Leise Stimmen' is a great opening track and pretty much sum's ups the bands style of good solid Rock. I'm impressed with Nico's(lead singer) vocals and they fit in well with this style. Another thing which suprised me about the cd is the length! It's a monster! The cd itself is 17 tracks long so there is plenty of music to be heard from the band. Dementi make good use with the keyboard in that they don't overuse it, just enough to it's there doing it's job. The music seems to flow well from one song to another. Nico's vocals can be grungy as in the song 'Puppenhaus' to soft as in 'Gezähltes Leid' and 'So Traüme Ich'. His vocals could be described as similar to Gary Wheeler from Stahlhammer especially the song 'Vater'. So I'd say Stahlhammer fans should check this out! The guitaring is great on 90% of the tracks, just on a few tracks they don't really try to capture my attention. Some songs on the album I think could have been left out as they don't really have the impact that the band has shown to be capable of. I found myself singing the lyrics to 'Puppenhaus' 3 days after first listening to the album so it shows they do have it going for them. So in conclusion, Dementi are definately a Deutsche Band worth keeping an eye on and I would recommend their album to people wishing to try out a new band. As with many Deutsche rock bands, vocals can be a touchy thing, but I believe many will like Nico's and just who the band seem to intergrate well.
