Kraftwerk 2003/12/14 12:21
Ok so I'm gonna have a go at this: I hope there are some Kraftwerk fans out there! *crosses fingers*

I've been raised with "We are the robots" and "Das boot", as all 80's kids, but only lately I've been starting to realise what an excellent band it really is. I bought Trans Europe Express and The Man Machine, and couldn't get enough so I bought their newest one, Tour De France Soundtracks. Love it love it love it. My latest purchase was Computer World.

What I love about Kraftwerk is the clear, beautiful sound, the little melodies that just take your mind, and the precise rhythm. They never waste a note. And the music is somehow much simpler than the usual pop-music, there's nothing to distract you from the music. This is the kind of music I just like to float around in. It's perfect.

Their homesite: http://kraftwerk.com/

I know this thread gets buried under tons of heavy-metal threads, but I don't care. This is German music. Just wait until I start threads of Vicky Leandroos and Marianne Rosenberg. All German... disco.

My thoughts about Kraftwerk have varied over the past years... First I thought they were really too slow and boring, then I liked them, then I didn't, and this continued for a while

Right now I like Kraftwerk very much. The sound is very simple, fairly calm, and clear as you mentioned. It also has a certain nostalgia to it because they have been active all through the 70s and 80s when electronic "machine made" music was only beginning, yet they have managed to capture something from that time and bring it to the modern day when they released the Tour de France Soundtracks album finally after all this time. I like Computer World a lot too, it's the most recent one I have purchased. I just wish it were easier to find good music

If you like Kraftwerk, I think you should try to find something by the band Skanfrom. Their album "Soothing Sounds For Robots" sounds really similar to Kraftwerk. I've heard a few other songs as well and they sounds pretty similar too. Unfortunately their site is not there anymore for some reason, but you can download 3 full length songs in high quality for free (and legally) here: http://www.epitonic.com/artists/skanfrom.html

Yay another Kraffie fan! *dances with Flammenstrahl*
they have managed to capture something from that time
especially with their older stuff... Listening to some songs I can almost smell and feel things from my childhood, the memories are really sharp. hock: Listening to Autobahn I can even taste the 70's even though I wasn't even born then! Of course, things like that go away after you listen the songs enough. Happened with another 80's band too, I got the same kinda freaky sharp memories, but by listening more, I "transferred" the music into present day and the memories didn't get activated anymore. Shame, really. :|

What's great about Kraftwerk is that their music is basically so positive, happy and sometimes even romantic. They have all these electronic sounds, but they don't try to make it sound even remotly threatening. Describing it as "kind and friendly" and "cat-like curiousity to experimenting with sounds" wouldn't be too far off, methinks.

I think you should try to find something by the band Skanfrom.
I dowloaded the three songs, and now after listening them once, they seem kinda boring... but maybe they improve after a while!

*runs and hides* Flammenstrahl does not dance

I wasn't born then either, but it still sounds great. Actually Autobahn reminds me of the music they would play in some cheesy science film or sex film they made you watch in high school

I thought Kraftwerk was very boring when I first heard them too I think Skanfrom will grow on you, just like it had grown on me.
