I've finally gotten around to listening to the album, and I'm glad I didn't buy it: there is not even one single song on it that I like, which I do find rather peculiar. It is supposedly the "leftovers" from Reise-Reise, and I do like a couple of the songs there, but I guess it just goes to prove that leftovers aren't really supposed to be eaten after a while in the fridge. They tend to grow green plush and nobody likes green plush, eh?

Unfortunately, Rammstein won't back to their roots. I bought Sehnsucht 2 weeks before and I started listening to their whole discography very very loud and carefully (I miss only HERZELEID, it's very expensive for me). OK, I played "Herzeleid" at the PC. Just the best Rammstein album! Typical Deutsche Musik sound, represents the idea of this type of music in the best way! Then is "Sechnsucht". With the orgiinal CD, played on the DVD with 5+1 columns it really sounds different Again this type of music but with better sound, more new technologies... great album again! I was skipping "Du Hast" for some time but after careful istening I decided that this is just typical Deutsche Musik again - simple and heavy guitar riffs, electronic sound, great rhytm. OK, next is "Mutter". Totally different direction of Rammstein's music. It took me months to accept thi difference and like the songs there. When I played album in 2001 and heard "Mein Herz Brennt" I was very disapointed! I expected something else. Rammstein started to sound "modern". Almost the whole metal was no more there. It was Industrial/Alternative Rock with a bit Metal influence maybe just because of the heavy guitars. Well, I accepted it and now I like this album a lot. Then - the big waiting. After - "Reise, Reise". I couldn't believe this is Rammstein. Again the absolutely modern sound, again rock, the repetative and headbanging riffs were missing. I don't like many songs from this album but I still like it. If this was their first album I would surely appreciate it but this was not the same Rammstien for me. I always skip "Reise, Reise", "Dalai Lama" (the most boring Rammstien song IMO along with "Nebel" and "Kuss Mich"), "Moskau" and "Morgenstern". I tried to like these tracks. But no. And now, here it is "Rosenrot". Better than "Reise, Reise". And another type of "modern" sound. No guitars in the couplets and catchy riffs in the choruses. Absolutely mainstream. But nice! Here are songs that I already skip. These are "Spring" - it gets very boring after the heavy riffs in the beginning. "Stirb Nicht Vor Mir" - yes, I think this is Coldplay feat. Till Lindemann and Texas' vocalist. The worst Rammstien ballad ever. "Hilf Mir" - it bores me too, I don't even remember the whole song, nothing common with Rammstien IMO. "Feuer Und Wasser" too - Rammstein could make it far better! But look at "Zerstoren"! I can't decide yet but this is maybe the most metal Rammstien song ever! Non-stop headbanging! Different song in this album - just waht I wanted
to hear and already one of my favourite Rammstein songs.

After, I would throw up when I saw the video of "Rosenrot". OK. One of the editions of "Du Riechst So Gut" seems like soap advertisment, this is bad. The video of "Mutter" is crap and non-understandable too. But this video is jsut... blah... "no words left to say" :? If they were made the video with the ship from the cover, with the scari script from the flash advertisments for the album - that would be the best Rammstein video ever maybe! But noooo, why do we have to do something like this when we can go in Romania, get some local girl and make the story interesting only for the philosophers who understand German? OK, appreciate it but after 30 sec of this video I know what will happen after. Like some old crapy movie. And yeah, it's the middle ages and Richard smokes a cigarette, great idea, yep

But in the end - Rammstein will be always Rammstein and will be a whole institution in music and in "Deutsche Musik". Most of us started with this band, right? They will always be different from all the things that are played on MTV and in the underground clubs.

<.< Oomph! was mine *cough*. Anyway ya Fishers got it down, even if he does still have a problem with pushing that enter button occasionally . Anyhow I just figured Id join the crowd and be one of the "cool kids" and list my rammstein disc favorites in order.

Sehnsucht 8.6/10
Mutter 8.3/10
Reise Reise 6.5/10
Herzeleid 6.2/10
Rosenrot: 4.2/10

Coming from listening to bands whose albums never sounded alike, I didn't really have any trouble liking any of the Rammstein albums. What is particularly interesting is that they avoided trying to repeat themselves (although sometimes it sounds like they do). Other people may not like it, and would rather that they do what they used to do, but as a musician myself, it is quite inevitable to write a song which takes a different direction than the batch of songs one has written two year ago. The music is as dynamic as the composers. And with that, I am actually quite happy that Rammstein did not just write what seems to be rocking, but what seems more honest to their interests. With that perspective, I like Rosenrot very much, as much as I liked their past albums.

Also looking forward to their next album.
