What is Neue Deutsche Härte?
Neue Deutsche Härte (New German hardness) is a direction in hard rock/metal music that developed in Germany in the 1990s. The combination of deep, clean vocals with a sound based on heavily distorted electric guitar and drums also usually includes keyboard and the use of synths, samples, and sometimes drum-machines. Often they also include Industrial sounds and gothic pianos, strings and choirs or chanting OriginsSeveral bands were important to the eventual sound, but OOMPH! are generally considered to be the original NDH band, starting with their second album, Sperm. Another important early NDH band was Fleischmann Industrial metal band Rammstein have described their genre "Tanz Metall" (a literal translation of "Dance metal"). Their high use of synthesisers, samples and keyboard scores often give the band a theme reminiscent of Electronic dance music or Trance, as evident on their 1997 song, Du Hast. NDH's sales has been increasing in Germany and the United States. Rammstein has achieved nearly 12 million in sales, Joachim Witt has sold nearly 1 million, other German artists are experiencing rising demand too. |
